The Van Alstyne Independent School District will soon begin construction on the second elementary school. The district is asking for community input on naming both of the elementary schools. Per school board policy, the following guidelines shall be used to name a school building or facility in the district:

1. The facility may be named for a person who has served the district or community, especially in service to children.

2. A nominee shall have made significant contributions to the community and/or education and the nominee’s name shall lend prestige and status to the institution of learning.

3. A facility may be named for a local residential or geographic area.

The deadline to submit a name nomination is Friday, June 2.
