On Jan. 20, police arrested Terry Dwayne Thomas, age 28, of Van Alstyne on felony charges of arson and evading arrest or detention with a vehicle. Van Alstyne Police Chief Tim Barnes said that the suspect called his estranged wife saying that he was setting their house on Stinnett Drive on fire.
The fire department responded quickly and got the fire out with only smoke damage incurred. The suspect, however, fled the scene. Police later found Thomas a few blocks away and made the arrest.
At the Grayson County Jail, officials served two Fannin County warrants against the suspect, charging him with possession of dangerous drugs and possession of marijuana. As of Monday, he remained incarcerated in lieu of $25,000 bail payable in surety bonds and $814 cash bonds.
