Just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, Van Alstyne city officials activated the CodeRed telephone emergency system to ask residents to hold off on major water usage, because of a water line break on FM 121 at Dallas Street. For Public Works to get to the root of the problem, workers had to dig at least 5 feet down and to make the repairs.

City officials did not return phone calls to provide more details.

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, the city again used CodeRed to tell residents that the water conservation period had ended.
