The Friends of Scouting in Van Alstyne will host its annual Scout Car Show on Saturday, June 17. This event serves as one of two primary fundraisers to cover all the necessary costs of providing a safe and secure meeting place for all of the scout groups in the community, as well as a scouting history museum for the entire Texoma region.

The event will feature cars ranging from the 1920s to newer models, as well as low-riders, motorcycles and other special groups. Twenty-eight classes will be judged, with three awards per class, plus six special awards including “Best of Show” and “Scout’s Choice.” Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 50 participants. Registration is $15 before June 10 or $20 on the day of the show.

The day’s festivities will also include a rummage sale and concessions featuring everyone’s favorites from hot dogs to nachos. While most of the day’s proceeds will go toward the yearly Scout Hut costs, the rummage sale will assist the boys with travel expenses to scout summer camp.

Events get under way with registration at 8 a.m. running through 11:00 a.m. Cars will be judged at 11:30 and awards presented at 2 p.m., with the fun lasting throughout the afternoon. The group’s favorite Elvis impersonator will be onsite once again to emcee and provide music selections enjoyed by all. Texoma Regional Blood Center will also be onsite all day to take donations, continuing the Scout tradition of contributing to the needs of the community.

The Scout Car Show couldn’t happen without the many local sponsors who help contribute to the event, and the Friends of Scouting are grateful for their support. This year’s sponsors include Auto Body by Fisher, Broken Wheel Auto Salvage, El Patio Escondido, J&S Tire and Auto, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Texas Star Bank.
