Paul and Gwen Denton of Van Alstyne celebrated 50 years of marriage Saturday with a reception at Elmont Baptist Church in Van Alstyne. The reception was hosted by the couple’s sons and daughters-in-law.
The Dentons were married June 3, 1967 at Elmont Baptist Church in Van Alstyne. The best man was Kent Whitehead and the groomsmen were Gary Whitehead and Glenn Gaskill. The maid of honor was Linda Bennett Whitefield and the bridesmaids were Charlene Edmonds and Betty Morrison Spencer.
Gwen Denton was born in Sherman to Carl and Opal Lay. She graduated from Van Alstyne High School, East Texas State University now Texas A& M University at Commerce, and North Texas State University now the University of North Texas. She taught for three years in Princeton Independent School District and 40 years with Van Alstyne Independent School District. Gwen Denton is a past member of the Van Alstyne Public Library board, the International Reading Association, and the Texas Retired Teachers Association. She enjoys quilting, crafts, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
Paul Denton was born in Dallas to W.A. and Leafy Denton. He graduated from Van Alstyne High School and East Texas State University. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum in Sherman. Paul Denton enjoys reading, old movies, and spending time with family and friends.
The Dentons are members of Elmont Baptist Church.
Their children are Danny and Julie Denton of Sherman, Brian and Tisha Taylor of Van Alstyne, and Chris and Leah Taylor of Whitewright. They have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
