The Howe First Christian Church’s “Save the Church” Committee held its second fundraiser on Saturday, April 8. The event featured a barbecue dinner and auction to help raise money for much-needed restorations to the building, built in 1893. Tickets were sold for $10 each.
This year’s fundraiser was host to around 250 community members and raised an estimated $12-$13,000, Howe Economic Development Director Monte Walker said. Funds will be used to complete repairs to the church’s interior. Leftovers from the dinner were donated to the Feed My Sheep Backpack Program and the Howe Volunteer Fire Department’s Tuesday night meeting.
The church’s first fundraiser event in 2015 raised nearly $30,000, which was used to make improvements to the building’s exterior, update plumbing and electrical work and add handicap accessibility.
