March Madness isn’t just for college basketball teams. Last Friday, March 31, at Van Alstyne High School, elementary-aged students participated in “Dot’s March Madness.” This event, sponsored by the Van Alstyne Elementary School PTA, gave younger students a chance to shoot baskets, run drills and play basketball with high school student volunteers.

This year, all proceeds from the event benefited the Dorothy Conner Loftice Memorial Scholarship, which is set up through the Van Alstyne Education Foundation to honor and remember Dorothy Loftice, a beloved member of the Van Alstyne community who passed away almost a year ago. The Education Foundation hopes to fully endow the scholarship this year, in order to begin awarding an annual scholarship to a Van Alstyne High School graduating senior.

Donations can be mailed to the Dorothy Conner Loftice Memorial Scholarship at Van Alstyne Education Foundation, PO BOX 1620, Van Alstyne, TX 75495.
