Teacher of the Month – Triva Gentzler, second grade teacher

Triva Gentzler is a described by her peers as an outstanding educator who deserves recognition for going above and beyond each and every day for her students. In a press release, Van Alstyne Elementary Principal Elizabeth Smith said Gentlzer builds strong relationships with her students that enables her to capture their interests and incorporate them into her planning.

“Gentzler helps each child reach his or her potential by pushing them to exceed the goals set to show mastery of the curriculum and encourages each one to explore individual genius,” the press release said. “She creates an atmosphere in her classroom where students lead, collaborate and problem solve together in engaging activities utilizing technology and real-world examples.”

Gentzler also serves in several leadership capacities on campus and is willing to assist any colleague at any time.

“We know Mrs. Gentzler is going to help us achieve our school’s mission of becoming a premier elementary school, and we are so proud of her for always showing her Panther pride,” the press release said.

Student of the Month – Sophia Baez, second grade student

Sophia Baez is described by her principal as a wonderfully sweet-spirited student who excels in all she does because of her kind heart and fantastic work ethic.

“We ask our students to show their Panther PRIDE as they are Productive, show Respect, use Integrity and Determination and exhibit Excellence in all things at school,” Van Alstyne Elementary Principal Elizabeth Smith said in a press release. “Sophia displays her Panther PRIDE each and every day, and it is noticed not only by her teacher but to all staff members, visitors and other students on campus.”

Sophia has already received three principal 100 certificates this school year for choosing to do the right thing all the time.
