The Texas Department of Transportation is advising motorists to be aware of a road improvement project that will affect traffic on portions of State Highway 121 in Van Alstyne beginning next week.

The $192,000 project is expected to run from June 11 to August 15, as long as weather is permitting, and aims to improve drainage infrastructure along the highway between Moody Lane and Lincoln Park Road. The construction work is expected to result in temporary lane closures and will be completed by the Austin-based firm Beck-Reit and Sons Ltd.

“Please observe and be prepared for any changes to the usual traffic pattern,” TxDOT Paris District Public Information Officer Tim McAlavy said. “And if you see an orange cone or especially a person directing traffic, please slow down and obey those traffic controls.”

In an emailed press release sent June 1, TxDOT also encouraged motorists to reduce their speed when approaching all work zones and to avoid common forms of distraction, including cellphones, radios and GPS navigation systems.
