SHERMAN — Services for Reed Bryan Barton, 80, of Sherman were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 9 at Scoggins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Highland Cemetery in Melissa. The family received friends Monday, January 8 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Reed was born September 29, 1937 in Anna to Albert and Audrey Bryan Barton. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Denison and served in the United States Air Force from 1961-1965. He worked for a number of highway and excavation contractors before starting his own contracting business in 1974. He retired from Reed Barton and Son, Inc. in 2010.
Reed was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Jean Barton; his parents; and sister, Billie Ruth Brayton. He is survived by his son Billy Barton (Tracy) of Van Alstyne; daughter, Kim Hester (Dwain) of Allen; step-daughters, Lynn Weatherford (Lillis) of Anna, and Mary Rumery (Douglas) of Nebraska City, NE; grandchildren, Courtney Braddock (Matt), Madison Barton, Summer Rippe (Chris), Bryan Martin, Kirston Stroder (Kenneth), Quinton Martin (Channing), Lacey Lewis (James), Samantha Delgado, and Crystal Delgado; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers were Joe Brayton, William Brayton, Allen Brayton, David Barton, Bryan Martin and Kenneth Stroder. Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Alstyne. You may sign the online guest book at www.scogginsfuneralhome.com
