July 4th is right around the corner, and that also means celebrating the day of independence for America. Most cities around the nation like to host firework displays for the residents to enjoy; Anna and Melissa are no different. Both cities are hosting celebrations.

The city of Anna is having a firework display on July 4 at 9:15 p.m. It is being hosted in conjunction with the Economic Development Corporation, the Community Development Corporation and the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce. It will be held at the Coyote stadium located at 1201 N. Powell Parkway, Anna. There will be a few food vendors there such as: Everything Ice Cream, Smoken S BBQ and Road Dawg Catering. Parking and admission or both free, and the chamber will be giving out free glow sticks — while supplies last. The parking lot will open at 8:00 p.m. to allow guests time to find the optimal seat to watch the fireworks.

Kevin Hall, executive director of the GACC said he is excited about the firework show and looks forward to the annual event.

“This is a fun way to have the community out and see a fabulous fireworks display that the city of Anna sponsors,” Hall said. “We invited the community to come out and celebrate America’s Independence Day.”

Hall said the annual event is unique due to the fact that every year it’s celebrated on July 4, no matter what day of the week it lands.

Hall said he wants to inform the residents that might live in the vicinity of the event that the firework display is loud and lasts for approximately 20 minutes.

“The noise can scare pets, so make sure your animals are safe and secure,” Hall said.

The city of Melissa will be hosting a “Celebration Freedom” event on Saturday, June 24. The event, dubbed “the biggest event in Melissa” will include a parade, a children’s play area, pony rides, live music, vendors, food and fireworks. The parade is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.

The event vendors, food and other items, will open at 5:00 p.m, and the children’s play area will open at 6:00 p.m. The special live music will be Texas Flood: A Tribute to the Blues and Stevie Ray Vaughun, and are scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. The parade is planned to start at 9:30 p.m. The address to the celebration event is 1503 W. Harrison, Melissa TX — next to the Scott Barker House on Highway 5 north.
